OneDrive - Resolving sync issues
ISSUE: When attempting to open files user receives error: "Cannot open file (filename) because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file." User is unable to open a file inside of another application. OneDrive is notifying the user that sync errors have been detected. Files are accessible in the cloud, or on another device, but not accessible on the user's device. OneDrive is stuck syncing the same files for an extended duration. RESOLUTION: Right Click on the OneDrive icon in your taskbar and select "Quit OneDrive." If there is NOT a OneDrive icon in your taskbar panel continue to next step. Press the "Windows Key", or click on "Start" in bottom left, and type OneDrive. Select OneDrive as shown below. Windows Explorer will open with file sync status showing on your files. Verify that OneDrive is running by clicking the cloud icon in the taskbar, and checking if the status is "your files are synced." If you find that OneDrive is taking too long to sync a file, or seems stuck, repeat this process until you see "Your Files Are Synced" MERGE CONFLICTS: Some files may not be able to sync due to merge conflicts. In that case you will be asked how to proceed, such as the dialog shown below. Choosing "Open in Office to merge changes" will allow you to open the file with option to choose the merged version you would like to keep. Choosing "Keep both files" will append the PPC number for each version of the file and not merge the changes in the main file. Example: OriginalFile.txt OriginalFile-PPC2234.txt OriginalFile-PPC4321.txt You may then merge these changes manually using these individual files.
